Another Song About Love
The fifteen songs on the album Another Song About Love are companion pieces to the novel of the same name. The song titles in the collection are the same as each chapter title in the novel. The lyrics (see below) and music are meant to compliment the narrative in the novel in a poetic sense, taking up themes of the story rather than being a simple re-telling of the story. While the two works are designed to compliment one another, the book and the album can also be experienced as a standalone work. You can hear sample mixes of each song below and order downloads of the album directly from the website or order a CD and we'll post it to you.
The songs were recorded at Zen Studios, Sydney and mixed at Borders Edge Studios Lismore, except for Another Song About Love which was mixed at Electric Avenue. All songs are copyright Janie Conway Herron except for 'The Ocean in Me' and 'Stoned' (cowritten with Tamlin Tregonning) and 'The Eagle Song' (cowritten with John Gahagan).
All tracks were mastered by Steve Smart at Studios 301.

SONG LYRICS
1. The Visitors
Will you be constant?
Will you be my friend?
Will you still be there, after the passion ends?
Will you keep coming round, after you’ve come for the first time?
Can you hear my heart beat?
Can you feel my heart ache?
I can give so easily still I wonder what you’ll take
Will you keep coming round, after you’ve come for the first time?
Keep your armour out in the cold.
Keep your ego up on the shelf.
Keep your youth for when you get old.
And your body for somebody else.
Look into my friendly smile
Hope you stay round for a while
Keeping watch on my danger zone
So I won’t end up alone
Will you keep coming round, after you’ve come for the first time?

2. The Ocean in Me
And now that it’s time for you to go,
I ‘m hoping that you, you’ll always know.
That no matter where or how far you go
The ocean in me will follow.
The ocean is deep; the ocean is wide,
As constant as its restless tides,
But as long as the waves and the sand collide,
The ocean in me will be right by your side.
The ocean in you, the ocean in me
Won’t you come on down to the shore and see?
The ocean in you and the ocean in me.
I’m part of your world, of all that you see.
Like the whispering leaves on a pandanas tree.
And every inlet of every sea,
Is part of the ocean in me.
Nothing I know ever stays the same.
Nothing is certain, not even my name.
But when you return to my shores again
The ocean in me will sing this refrain.
The ocean in you, the ocean in me
Won’t you come on down to the shore and see?
The ocean in you and the ocean in me.

3. One Night Stand
Well it’s such a strange city and I’m so far from home.
You know it’s such a pity that I feel so alone.
So I stand on the stage keep an eye on the floor,
Hoping that tonight’s the night you’ll walk through the door.
Don’t want no rough man,
No come on tough man.
Just want enough man,
To last me through the night.
Your eyes were blue and piercing and they held me across the room.
You walked mean and angular but you seemed so confused.
Like you were living out some image that didn’t quite ring true.
It made me kind of curious to know more about you.
Don’t want no rough man,
No come on tough man.
Just want enough man,
To last me through the night.
Later in the dressing room you smiled and said hello.
Your touch was gentle on my arm it just went to show.
That you weren’t no rough man,
No come on tough man.
You were just enough man,
To last me through the night.

4. Sail Away

My pen and I were thinking about you.
My thoughts can’t seem to do without you.
They sail away on rivers of blue.
And so it seems my song will be for you.
I hope when you hear it, it can reassure you.
That anyhow my intentions are true.
I’ve been sitting here all night
Feeling melancholy
Want to be holy too.
In the half light, in the lamp light,
Maybe be mine tonight.
My memories come drifting toward you.
In fantasies I’m looking forward to
Seeing you listen to my song.
The melody longs to disarm you,
To charm your heart with delicate fantasies.
I’m hoping that, you’ll be singing along.
I’ve been sitting her all night
Feeling melancholy
Want to be holy too.
In the half light, in the lamp light,
Maybe be mine tonight.
My pen and I were thinking about you.
My thoughts can’t seem to do without you.
They sail away, on rivers of, sail away, on rivers of, sail away,
On rivers of blue.
Sail away ooh, ooh.

5. Getting High On Love

Getting high on love
Getting high on love
Getting high on love, oh yeah.
With the touch of your hand
You can make me understand
Just how simple it can be, yeah.
I know loving ain’t easy
But still the way you please me
Sets my soul free, yeah.
And I’m getting high on love
Getting high on love
Getting high on love, oh yeah.
There’s no need to play it cool.
We can break all the rules
And let our loving hearts free
I know my love’s rock steady,
And I’m hoping that you’re ready
To fly away with me, yeah.
‘Cause we’re getting high on love
Getting high on love
Getting high on love, oh yeah.
No need to reassure
I’m knocking on heaven’s door
And everyone can see, yeah
I hope it lasts forever
‘Cause I know that I’ve never
Been this high before, yeah.
And I’m getting high on love
Getting high on love
Getting high on love, oh yeah.

6. On the Brink
Ours not to ask the question why
Looks like we’re doing or dying.
I just want to know how
To keep on flying.
You make my soul crave something more
Just got to keep on trying.
Your love makes me feel so high
But I’m so scared I’ll wake up crying.
I’m on the brink
Don’t want to sink or swim.
Don’t want to climb the tree
Look back and see
I’m out on a limb.
Want a taste of the sweet life,
A much more complete life
Don’t want the sweet to turn sour.
Do you feel the feeling,
Looking at life the way I do?
I’m walking on the ceiling
Looking for another point of view.
‘Cause when it all comes down
It’s our dreams that pull us through.
Just a little to hold on to
We can make our dreams come true
I’m on the brink
Don’t want to sink or swim.
Don’t want to climb the tree
Look back and see
I’m out on a limb.
Want a taste of the sweet life,
A much more complete life
Don’t want the sweet to turn sour.

7. Number One

Everybody wants to be
A number one.
Climb the top of the tree,
A number one.
Well you know it don’t matter
When you’re dead on gone.
Thrive on competition
Just to keep on keeping on now.
A number one, a special one
A number one, a special one.
Everybody wants to say,
Got to make it mine.
It’s such a crime.
Work hard every day,
Just to make it mine.
All of the time.
Well you know it don’t matter
When you’re dead on gone.
Thrive on competition
Just to keep on keeping on now.
A number one, a special one
A number one, a special one.
Got to keep on working.
Keep on working.
Everybody wants to be
A number one.
Climb the top of the tree,
A number one.
Well you know it don’t matter
When you’re dead on gone.
Thrive on competition
Just to keep on keeping on now.
A number one, a special one
A number one, a special one.

8. Subway Blues
I can see them moving out now in single file.
Money in their pockets makes sure they’ve got a lot of style.
Ticket in the slot, ride the escalator.
Nameless faces don’t they fascinate you.
I’ve got the subway blues,
You know I want to lose
Those subway blues.
Might take a trip to Spain see a Spanish smile.
Sail the Caribbean or the river Nile.
Don’t want a house or shiny car,
But I’d like a set of drums and a bass guitar.
I’ve got the subway blues,
You know I want to lose
Those subway blues.
Well don’t the lights at night excite you?
Only wish that I had the right to,
Walk them alone; it’s a cold war zone.
And the fear of the knife, make me run for my life.
I’ve got nothing to lose but you know I want to choose,
To give my body to my friends and not my foes.
I’ve got those subway blues,
You know I want to lose
Those subway blues.
Well I might walk the streets or play my guitar on the corner
Any way I do it, I tell you I’m gonna.
Keep my head above this city shove.
Be one of the few who might learn to lose.
Those subway blues,
You know I want to lose
Those subway blues.

9. Fool Myself

Standing in your shadow
Waiting for the sun to shine,
Just isn’t my idea of having a real good time.
Got to get myself together,
Got to try and toe the line.
Got to turn over a brand new leaf,
And try and make believe I’m feeling fine.
Got to try and fool myself,
Before you make a fool out of me.
Now you’ve got a brand new girlfriend,
You don’t want me hanging around.
I can’t even visit you,
I think I may as well leave town.
Got a funny feeling,
This affair’s run me into the ground.
Well the other day I saw you,
Walking down the street.
I was standing at the bus stop,
Trying to be discreet.
You looked the other way,
You didn’t want her to see me.
I watched you walk on by,
I didn’t even cry.
But I could tell that I was breaking,
By the way my heart was aching, ooh eeh.
There’s only one way out of this,
Got to try and break your hold on me.
I’m a steady loving woman,
Worth my weight in gold you see.
But I think I have to face
Slow and steady’s going to lose this race.
Yes I think I have to face,
Slow and steady’s going to lose this race.
Got to try and fool myself,
Before you make a fool out of me.
Got to try and fool myself,
Before you make a fool out of me.

10. Happily Ever After

I never could write you a love song
As I only seem to write memories.
As if to define with some written line,
Something that’s just flown away.
But you stuck around
And darling I found
It impossible to try and portray,
That something between us,
That could only be seen as
A love that had chartered the skies.
I thought it could last forever
A road leading on through our lives.
But even the best, can be just like the rest,
It all has to end some day.
But you’re under my skin.
I let you get in
And now this feeling won’t go away.
That something between us,
That could only be seen as
A love that had chartered the skies.
I guess that I’m just a romantic.
Too many years of watching T.V.
Where lovers walk hand in hand,
slow motion across the sand,
Side by side forever and a day.
But you were my knight.
Me a princess in white.
Together we road away,
With that something between us
That could only be seen as
A love that had chartered the skies.
Well, I never could write you a love song
As I only seem to write memories.
As if to define with some written line,
Something that’s just flown away.
Something that’s just flown away.

11. Stoned

I once watched you do it,
Even helped you get it in.
I think I’ll stick to boozing
Rather than begin.
‘Cause once you get the habit
It’s so hard to shake.
And when you get stoned
You know it makes my heart ache.
Because you’re so hard to reach
When you get stoned.
Well everyone was raging
And I was trying too.
When you passed out
I didn’t know what to do.
I kissed you on the lips
But they were stone cold.
My God I kept on thinking
I must be getting old.
Because you’re so far away
When you get stoned.
I once had a girl friend
Brown skin and eyes of blue
A graceful way of walking
Her strength came shining through
The other day I saw her,
Ruby lips and high heels
She said I need the money
You just don’t know how it feels
Because you’re so hard to reach
‘til I get stoned
Yes, you’re so far away,
‘til I get stoned.
So far away,
When you get stoned.
So hard to reach,
When you get stoned.

12. Loving Isn’t Easy
Loving isn’t easy these days
Like a diamond it shines in a thousand ways.
Like the gentle rays of the sun through the clouds
It can show you a way.
To tread lightly and softly
Like a leaf that is caught
In the wind of a time
When we follow our hearts
To the end.
Ah but I’m like a dove in full flight,
Struggling to break free of the sky.
Or a kite that is flying so high
Still attached to the strings that life holds.
Like a flower that cautiously opens
To the warmth of the morning sun,
I reached with my heart out to you.
That maybe we could travel for a while,
Bathed in the warmth of the sun,
That is shining to show us a way
To tread lightly and softly,
Like a leaf that is caught
In the wind of a time
When we follow our hearts
To the end.
But I’m like a dove in full flight,
Struggling to break free of the sky.
Maybe the kite can break free
Of the strings that life holds.

13. Another Song About Love
Every time I write a song
Seems it’s always the same.
About some turn of my heart,
Or someone else’s refrain.
‘Cause I’m stretched out, strung out,
Searching the streets at night.
Just a desperado
Trying to feel alright.
Then I turn on my radio,
Here it comes again.
Another lonely person,
Crying in the rain.
‘Cause they’re stretched out, strung out,
Searching the streets at night.
They’re just looking for something
To make them feel alright.
Well here it comes.
Yes, here it comes.
Another song about love
If love is all there is and it makes the world go round.
Someone’s making a lot of money, when the records go round.
Rock and roll’s such a lonely game I know it won’t be long,
Until all we can do is sing about love.
Sacrifice life for a song.
So here’s a song for everyone,
Who’s ever been on the road.
It’s another one of those songs,
About sharing a heavy load.
‘Cause we’re stretched out, strung out,
Searching the streets at night.
For all the desperados
Trying to feel alright.
Here it comes.
Yes, here it comes.
Here it comes.
Yes, here it comes.
Here it comes.
Yes, here it comes.
Another song about love.
Another song about love.
Another song about love.
Another song about love.

14. Life Goes On

We’ve been watching the time go by
For years and years,
With nothing much to show for it
But laughter and tears.
Do you think that it could mean more
To you and to me,
If I wrote a little song for you
For all the world to see?
‘Cause, life goes on and on
Yes, life goes on and on
And on and on.
Yes, life goes on and on
Life goes on and on
And on and on.
Memories and thoughts go by
And vanish in the night
If you don’t keep them in your mind
They’ll soon be out of sight.
Do you think that we’d remember more,
Over the coming years,
If I wrote a little song for you
For all the world to hear?
‘Cause, life goes on and on
Yes, life goes on and on
And on and on.
Yes, life goes on and on
Life goes on and on
And on and on.
High up in the mountains,
A little creek flows free
Then grows into a river,
That flows into the sea.
We are only rivers,
In an ocean built on sand
But move one grain and the ocean
Will never be the same.
‘Cause, life goes on and on
Yes, life goes on and on
And on and on.
Yeah, life goes on and on
Life goes on and on
And on and on.

15. The Eagle Song

The days are longer now,
Now that you’ve finally gone.
I walk the streets all wet with the spring rain
And watch the eagle circle round this park again.
And he circles, oh how he circles
Trapped by the spring rain.
They say they brought him here,
Against his own free will.
I wonder why such a free spirit
Is flying around here still.
Yes he’s flying around here still.
A thousand miles away from here,
My mother rises in the morning.
She’s got a pair of binoculars
To watch those eagles circling.
She was the first one,
To teach me how to live.
She held my hand against the thunderstorm.
And she taught me how to give.
Yes she taught me how to live.
